Joseph V. Sgroi, 85, of Rockaway Township NJ, passed away peacefully at his home on June 25, 2025. Born on July 30, 1939, in Newark, NJ, he was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Mary (Desimone) Sgroi.

Joseph proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. A hardworking vman with a strong sense of responsibility, he began his career as a butcher and later worked as a supervisor for Wakefern Food Corporation in Elizabeth, NJ.

Joseph had a deep appreciation for movies, especially World War II, and was an avid fan of classic Westerns-particularly those starring John Wayne. He also loved watching football and boxing. He found joy in life's simple pleasures: snacking on figs and chocolate-covered cherries, and spending cherished time "down the shore" on Long Beach Island. A kind and gentle soul, Joseph was deeply devoted to his family. He adored his grandchildren and took great pride in their lives.

He is survived by his loving wife, Patti; his children, Karen Sgroi, Danielle Migliara and her husband Paul, and Nicholas Simuta and his wife Danielle; and his cherished granddaughters, Nicole and Angelica. He also leaves behind his brother, Dr. Donald Sgroi and his wife Phyllis, and his brother-in-law, Tommy Pugliese and many nieces and nephews.

Joseph was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Marilyn Reese, and his siblings, sister Mary Anne Pugliese and brother Philly Sgroi and his wife Babe.

He will be remembered for his warmth, his unwavering love for his family, and the kindness he extended to everyone he met.

There will be a memorial mass on July 8, 2025, 10:00 am at St. Clement Pope & Martyr Roman Catholic Church, 154 Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Dover NJ 07801.

Services are entrusted to Newbaker Funeral Home, Blairstown, NJ.
