Joe was born January 2,1955 to Don and Carol Jackson Sommers in Salt Lake City, UT. He grew up and attended schools in what is now West Valley City. He graduated from Granite High School in 1973. He held a variety of jobs until starting D&J Towing with his father. He also retailed and wholesaled used cars. He operated the business until his retirement in 2021, a total of 43 years.
Joe served honorably as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff with the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office for a number of years. He married his wife Teri on March 12, 1992.They have two sons, Joshua and Cody. He loved his dogs, especially his current dachshund, Cayenne. He was an avid collector of miniature trains and antiques. He also loved classic cars and had extensive experience and knowledge of anything automotive. He cherished Alaska and the fishing trips with his father.
He is survived by his wife Teri; his children Joshua and Cody (Sierra); his sisters Lisa (Glenn) Kinney and Janet Peck; numerous aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents Carol and Don; and brother-in-law Bryan Peck.
Memorial viewing will be held on January 6, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:30 PM at Anderson and Goff Mortuary, 11859 South 700 East, Draper.
