Joe was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and neighbor. He met his sweetheart Linda at just 15 years old when, as he tells it, he saved her from drowning at the Somerton Springs pool-a meeting that sparked a 50-year love story, three kids and 10 grandchildren who never left his house without licorice and a hug.
After high school, Joe attended barber school where he learned a skill that secured his role as the go-to family barber. If you were one of the many kids who sat nervously in his basement for your first haircut, chances are you walked away with a clip, a smile and a spin in the barber chair.
Joe served honorably in the Army reserves and began his professional career at Bell Telephone, where he collected coins and proudly proclaimed to know where every payphone in Philadelphia was. As technology changed, so did Joe - becoming a computer programmer and eventually a manager at Bell Atlantic and Verizon. After "retiring," he went on to brighten days at Sesame Place, where he enjoyed working with all of the kids who helped keep him young.
A man of many talents, Joe could fix anything with duct tape and WD-40. He crafted wooden treasures, developed photos in his darkroom and filled the home with music.
His easygoing nature and simple but immense love for family, friends (and the Eagles!) is truly his legacy.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Tuesday, August 12, 2025, from 9:30AM until 11:00AM at LOUIS A. DiGIACOMO FUNERAL HOME Inc.,1055 Southampton Road, Philadelphia, PA 19116, services 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment William Penn Cemetery, Somerton.
