Joseph Tobin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home - New Hartford on Jun. 13, 2023.
Joseph Tobin of New Hartford, NY passed away peacefully on Sunday June 11, 2023, with his family by his side. Joseph was born April 27, 1930, in New York City, the son of Hyman and Sadie Tobin.
Joseph graduated from Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan in 1948, attended City College of NY and Cornell University, graduating in 1956. He served in the US Army 1951-52.
Joseph met his beloved wife Mary in 1952. They married on September 3, 1955 in Our Lady's Chapel of St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC. The ceremony was performed by Father E. Donachie. Joe and Mary celebrated 70 years of love and devotion in 2022, prior to her passing in May 2022.
Joe is survived by his three loving children, Joyce L. Parsons (John Scott Parsons) of Penfield, NY; Mark D. Tobin of Orlando, FL; and Marcia J. Tobin (Bailey Foster) of Knoxville, TN. He has two beautiful grandchildren, Henry N. Foster-Tobin and Margaret E. Foster-Tobin. Joe was also predeceased by his brother Abraham David Tobin and sister-in-law Nancy Tobin.
A lifelong learner, and lover of the library, Dad found great joy in figuring out how to do just about anything via books and then computers. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping and canoeing in the Adirondacks, his dogs, and planting trees to forest his property. Up until his final weeks, he was dedicated to getting outside to dig in the dirt and turn over the compost.
Our family is very grateful to the doctors and caregivers who helped in his last months and their enormous tenderness and compassion. We miss you dearly Dad. We will miss all the free advice, your sense of humor and dad jokes, and will carry with us your sense of wonder and adventure. We know you are reunited with Mother, your Mary, and look forward to seeing the signs you send our way. Rest peacefully.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday June 15, 2023 at 11 am at Calvary Cemetery 2407 Oneida Street, Utica. There are no calling hours.
