He was born on Tuesday, March 13, 1956, in Highland, IL, the son of Earl and June (nee Kantner) Welchlen.
"Panhead" was born in Highland, IL, he grew up there and graduated from Highland High School in 1974. He worked for Highland Embroidery Works and then moved to Artex International, where he retired from after 25+ years of service as a sewing machine mechanic. Joe rode a '62 Panhead Harley Davidson motorcycle. He loved to fish the area lakes. He collected Indian relics, especially arrowheads was a long-time hobby. He also collected motorcycle replicas. He loved to interact with friends and make them laugh.

Son - Ben J. (Cayla) Welchlen, Highland, IL
Grandchild - Claire Josephine Welchlen, Highland, IL
Grandchild - Henry Earl Welchlen, Highland, IL
Brother - William E. (Connie) Welchlen, Pocahontas, IL
Life Companion - Marcie L. Rodgers, Breese, IL.
He was preceded in death by:
Father - Earl W. "Smokey" Welchlen DOD: 12/12/97
Mother - June Elizabeth Welchlen DOD: 01/18/11
Daughter - Christabell Welchlen DOD: 1989.
Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.
Memorial contributions may be made to HACSM (Highland Area Christian Service Ministry) or to the Family.
