S.J. Rev. Nicholas Francis Pope

Fr. Nicholas F. Pope, S.J., was called to eternal life on October 20, 2025 in Wauwatosa, WI. He was 82 years old, a Jesuit for 64 years and a priest for 53 years. Born in Sioux City, IA, he entered the Jesuit novitiate in St. Bonifacius, MN in 1961. He earned a bachelor's degree in arts and letters at St. Louis University, a master's degree in divinity at Regis College in Toronto, and a master's degree in English at Marquette University. He was ordained a priest on June 9, 1972 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Sioux City. He taught at Creighton Prep (1967-1969, 1973-1981), Marquette University (1981-1982), and Marquette University High School (1982-1986). He applied his significant business, computer, and administrative skills at the International Jesuit Center for Social Communications (JESCOM) in Rome, the Jesuit Seminary Guild in Milwaukee, Marquette University, the Wisconsin Province Office, the Institute of Jesuit Sources in St. Louis, and the Curia of the Society of Jesus in Rome. He moved to St. Camillus Jesuit Community in 2014 to care for his health. He was preceded in death by his parents Nicholas and Catherine (Cardiello) Pope and his sister Mary Kounas and her husband Mike. He is survived by his nieces Suzanne (J. Paul) Dainko and Stephanie Kounas and his grandniece Mia Dainko and his grandnephews David and Sean Dainko.

Funeral Mass at St. Camillus Jesuit Community on November 11 at 11:00 a.m. CST. His cremains will be buried at Calvary Cemetery in Milwaukee.
