Joseph Charles Wilhide Jr.

Harrisburg, PA – Joseph Charles Wilhide, Jr., 85, of Harrisburg, PA and formerly of Sharpsburg, MD passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center Hershey, PA.
He was born on February 5, 1940, in Frederick, MD to the late Joseph Charles Holdcroft Wilhide, Sr. and Georgie Mae (Carpenter) Wilhide.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Kay (Otzelberger) Wilhide on July 17, 2011, and his son Brent J. Wilhide on May 14, 1994.
Joseph was a 1958 graduate of Frederick High School. He received his associate degree from Frederick Junior College, he also attended American Institute of Banking in Baltimore, MD.
He was a veteran of the Maryland National Guard and U.S. Army Reserves. He retired from the U.S. Army in 2000 as a Major after 30 years of service.
Joseph was employed by General Motors Parts Division in Martinsburg, WV for 30 years until his retirement.
He was a member of Samples Manor Church of God Sharpsburg, MD. He was also a member of the Antietam Ruritan Club where he previously served as President and Treasurer.
Joseph was one of the founding members of the Potomac Valley Fire Co. He previously served as President and Treasurer.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Loretta (Wesnofske) Smith Wilhide, whom he married on November 2, 2014; stepsons Kenneth R. Smith and wife Erin of Adamstown, MD, Jeffrey M. Smith, Sr. and his wife Jacqueline of Eastport, NY, and Daniel B. Smith and his wife Intira of Moriches, NY; 6 step grandchildren Wyatt A. Smith, Cassidy L. Smith, Jeffrey M. Smith, Jr., Joshua D. Smith, Douglas G. Smith, and Collin D. Smith.
Funeral services will be held at Samples Manor Church of God Sharpsburg, MD on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 1:00 pm with Pastor Joe Goetz and Pastor Darrel Strite officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday from 12:00 -1:00 pm. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Clopper-Michael Post #10 American Legion Boonsboro, MD.
