Joseph M.W. Bouchard, 89, of Brunswick, died at his home on July 16, 2024.
He was born in the Town of Brunswick on April 17, 1935 to William and Sophia (Thibeault) Bouchard. He grew up on the Church Road, next to the old Granite Farm Dairy.
Joe graduated from Brunswick High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army as a chaplain's assistant until 1959; he was stationed in France. He worked for the Cianbro Corporation as a millwright for ten years. He was proud to have been part of the crew that built the Brunswick Hydroelectric Station. Joe was a carpenter for many years. He built many homes in and around the Brunswick area, including his own. Joe retired from the Brunswick School Department in 2005 where he'd worked as head custodian since 1992.
Joe was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking and going to car shows. Most mornings, he drank coffee with a group of friends at the Topsham McDonald's.
Joe is survived by his wife of 50 years, Clara Jo (Elam) Bouchard. He is also survived by his brother, Alfred Bouchard and wife, Paula, of Brunswick. He has four daughters, Stella (Bouchard) Crooker of Bowdoinham, Sabrina Bouchard of Topsham, Sonja (Swanlund) Bedard of Brunswick, and Pamela (Swanlund) Taggert of Fredericksburg, Virginia. He leaves behind five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. At Joe's request, there will not be a funeral service.
