Joseph Wilson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home on Sep. 26, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Joseph Wayne "Joey" Wilson, 48, of Fairmont, WV, passed away at his home on Thursday, September 25, 2025, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly. He was born on December 2, 1976, the son of John and the late Helen (Hinkle) Stuyvesant.

Joey was a truck driver by trade, but his true calling in life was being a family man. He had a big laugh, a big heart, and never met a project car he didn't want to tinker with. He enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles, tattooing, drawing, and teasing those he loved with his one-of-a-kind humor.

Above all else, Joey's proudest and happiest role was being "Poppy." Nothing brought him more joy than time with his grandchildren - whether casting lines on the water, goofing around, or simply being silly together. His grandbabies adored him, and he adored them right back. The love they shared was pure and will live on in every memory and every story told about their Poppy.

Joey is survived by his loving wife, Lorilei (Marietta) Wilson; his children, Tommy Eddy III, Joseph Wilson, Jr., Jonathan Wilson, Miranda Wilson, Taylor Potoczny (Austin), Tessa Wilson, and Hailey Wilson-Henderson (Toby); his daughter-in-law Jennifer Young Wilson; his brother Jeffrey Sturgeon (Amanda); his sisters Christina Gerard (Pete) and Alicia Stewart; his sister-in-law Michelle Wilson; and his grandchildren: Dominic Bena, Zeal Potoczny, Zaden Bena, Landon Grow, Lakelynn Potoczny, Maryella Potoczny, Jasper Eddy, and Xavier Wilson. He is also remembered with love by a brother from another mother, Cecil McGee, and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who were family.

He was welcomed into heaven by his mother, his brothers William Wilson, Jr. and Franklin Sturgeon, his sister Hollie Stuyvesant, his granddaughter Novalynn Grow, and his brother-in-law William Stewart.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Joey's life at Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont, on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, from 1:00–8:00 pm, and again on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, from 10:00 am until the funeral service at 11:00 am, with Pastor Kelly Gamble officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
