Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother and Friend
Joseph Charles Wintermeyer, 82, of Scottsdale, Arizona, crossed the finish line on June 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family-and probably dreaming of his Austin Healey roaring down a winding road with his wife Lynn by his side.
Born in the Bronx, New York, Joe was the eldest of two children and a proud graduate of White Plains High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1966, where he developed a lifelong love of service, structure, and strong coffee. After his time in the Navy, Joe launched a 30-year career with Western Electric, where he made his mark in the communications industry long before smartphones were a thing.
But Joe's greatest passion-by far-was his wife, Lynn. Married for 52 years, they were a team in every sense of the word. Whether they were raising their boys, traveling the country, or just enjoying quiet time together, Joe and Lynn were inseparable. After retirement, they moved to Port Charlotte, Florida, where they soaked up the sun, hit every car show they could find, and made friends everywhere they went.
Joe's pride and joy (besides his family) was his original 1967 Austin Healey, which he bought brand new and lovingly maintained for nearly six decades. He also had a soft spot for Formula 1 racing, the New York Yankees, and a cold beer shared with good company.
He gave back to his community as a proud member-and President-of the Carmel-Kent Lions Club in New York. Later in life, Joe and Lynn moved to Cave Creek, Arizona, to be closer to family, where he became a regular fixture at family gatherings, always ready with a story, a screwdriver, or a perfectly made Bacon, Egg & Cheese.
Known affectionately as "Joey" to those who loved him, Joe had a big personality, a bigger heart, and a knack for making people feel like family. He was a masterful cook, a handyman extraordinaire, and the kind of guy who could fix your sink, your mood, and your barbecue grill-all in one visit.
Joe is survived by his sons, Thomas Wintermeyer (Beth) and Daniel Wintermeyer (Melanie); his six grandsons-Joseph, Nicholas, Ryan, Colin, Charlie, and Jack-who all inherited at least one of his many talents; his sister, Maryann Errico; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lynn, and his parents, Thomas and Anna Wintermeyer.
Joe left us doing what he did best-talking cars, critiquing F1 drivers from his recliner, and reminding everyone that the best beer is the one in your hand, especially if you're surrounded by people you love.
A celebration of Joe's life will be held on July 25th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Community in Scottsdale, followed by burial at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix.

Dear Tommy, Danny and Family:
I am sorry to hear about your dad. I have so many great memories of him. Our families spent so much time together. He should do k in how to make you laugh. At my wedding, he told me I was the prettiest girl in New York. So sweet. He is reunited with your mom. May he rest in peace.
