Josephine Davis Obituary

Josephine Davis
September 12, 1925 – January 22, 2025
Josephine (Jo) Davis, 99, passed away on January 22, 2025, to be with the Lord. She was a
resident at Lake Park Nursing Home in Indian Trail, NC. Born on September 12, 1925, in Thrall,
Texas, Josephine was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-
grandmother.
On October 2, 1953, she married the love of her life, Dan S. Davis. Together, they shared 55
wonderful years of marriage and raised a large family that includes 7 grandchildren, 11 great-
grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Josephine was an avid bowler, enjoying the sport for many years, even after the passing of her
husband, Dan, in 2009. Known for her lively personality, straightforward nature, and deep faith,
she was a woman who always stood by her beliefs. Josephine would often say, "Put your faith in
God's hands, He will always lead you the way." She was an active member of Cross and Crown
Lutheran Church in Matthews, NC, and even on the days she could not attend church, she would
ensure to read scripture at home.
In her free time, Josephine loved socializing with friends and family, often playing games like
dominoes, Bunco, or cards. Her favorite card game was 21, and she always seemed to end up
with a winning hand.
Josephine is preceded in death by her mother, Emelia Rodriguez Briseno, of Taylor, Texas; her
sister, Dora Carrizales, of Allen Park, Michigan; her husband, Dan S. Davis, of Matthews, NC;
her daughter, Rosa M. Durkin, of Fayetteville, NC; her son, Danny W. Davis, of Matthews, NC;
and her grandson, Lynn Bunting, of Dardanelle, AR.
She is survived by her daughter, Helen Stice of Russellville, AR; daughter-in-law, Sue Davis of
Matthews, NC; and her grandchildren: Becki Bryson (Clayton) of Russellville, AR, Michele
Davis (Stephen) of Fayetteville, NC, Renee Dayton (Robert) of Midland, NC, Kimberly Smith
(Carl) of Russellville, AR, Clay Davis (Abbi) of Matthews, NC, and Andrew Davis of Matthews,
NC.
Josephine's legacy of love, warmth, and faith will continue through her children, grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Wherever she went, her presence radiated
love, and she touched everyone she met. Her family will also fondly remember her playful
nature-if you ever called her by her full name, Josephine, you could count on her raising her
finger at you, giving a playful warning.
Josephine held many titles throughout her life-Mom, Mother, Nanny, Nanny Jo, Josie, Aunt
Josie, Mrs. Jo-and she answered each with pride and joy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Atrium Health Foundation.
A service to celebrate Josephine's life will be Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 1:00PM at Cross and Crown Lutheran Church Matthews.
