Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dooley Colonial Home - Westfield on Dec. 2, 2025.
Loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Josephine Evans (Pidoto), 95, of
Clark, NJ, peacefully entered into eternal rest on December 2, 2025.
Josephine was born in
Bridgeport, CT, and raised in
Westfield, NJ, where she graduated from Westfield High School. She then moved with her husband, Tom, to
Clark, NJ seventy-two years ago. Josephine and Tom were pioneers of a sort, purchasing a lot in Clark and building their own home.
Josephine worked part-time for L'Oreal Inc., and J.C. Penny, eventually working full-time for Kelco Inc., a division of Merck. She was responsible for scheduling the company's importing and exporting world-wide. She loved her job and retired after working for Merck for 25 years.
After retirement, Josephine and Tom enjoyed spending summers at their home on a lagoon in Green Island, Toms River, NJ. They also wintered in Jupiter, Florida for many years, and traveled extensively visiting many countries in Europe. Josephine filled her retirement years with learning the game of bridge. It would become her most loved pastime, in addition to reading. She partnered with many people over her 32 years of playing and was considered a highly skilled player.
Josephine was her own person (by her own admission). She was decisive and forthright. She was blessed to have a life of wonderful health until her recent years. Most importantly, she retained a positive outlook on so many facets of her life. She always said there was no point in concentrating on the negative. Even when her health began to decline, she said there was nothing to be gained from worrying.
Josephine is predeceased by her husband Thomas J. Evans, whom she was married to for 59 years; and her parents Rocco and Maria Pidoto. She is survived by her devoted children, Donna Towner and her husband Rick, of Clark; her son Thomas Jr. and his wife Judy of Clark. Josephine was the cherished grandmother of Stephanie Towner Lee,
Lee Evans, Kevin Towner, Danielle Roglieri and Dylan Evans, and the great grandmother of Eloise Lee, Graham Lee, Josephine Lee and Abigail Roglieri.
She is also survived by her niece Sharon Vill and her husband Charlie, and nephews John Stagich and his wife Dottie, David Stagich, and first cousin Lucy Furnari Arbes.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral mass on Saturday December 6th, at 12:00pm at Saint Helen's Church in
Westfield, NJ. Visiting will be two hours prior to Mass from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at Dooley Colonial Funeral Home, 556 Westfield Ave.,
Westfield, NJ.
