Josephine Contreras Flores, affectionately known as Josie to her loved ones, passed away peacefully from natural causes on July 2, 2025, in her hometown of San Antonio,Texas. Born on July 23, 1944, Josie's vibrant spirit and warm heart touched the lives of many throughout her 80 years.
Josie's life was a tapestry of love, woven with the threads of family, faith, and community. She grew up in a bustling household as one of 15 siblings, a dynamic that instilled in her the values of unity and support.
Josie was a proud graduate of Burbank High School, class of 1962, where she formed lifelong friendships and a foundation for her future endeavors. In her professional life, Josie was known for her dedication and service at Casa Rio, where she worked for many years.
Josie's heart found its truest joy in the roles of wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She and her beloved husband, Armando Flores were married for 61 beautiful years, shared a love that was the core of their family.
Together, they raised three daughters: Lydia Flores Cruz, the late Sandra Marie Flores, and Theresa Dakota Flores-Martinez. Josie's legacy continued to blossom through her six grandchildren, Patience, Heavenly, Victoria, Tyler, Serenity, and Harmonie, and further into her five great-grandchildren, Nathalia, Mason, Lelanie, Nayeli, and Elena.
Beyond her immediate family, Josie's love extended to her extended daughter, Henrietta Jamaica, extended brother, Tony Hernandez, and godchildren Alex Jaramillo, Brittany, Darlene Gutierrez, and Sammy Hernandez, all of whom she cherished deeply.
Josie's home of 56 years at the same address was a haven of delicious aromas and warmth, where she expressed her love through her exceptional cooking and baking. Her Aroz con Pollo, wedding & Reposteria cookies, and bunuelos were legendary, bringing together family and friends over shared meals and cherished traditions.
Josie's laughter often filled the room during games of Loteria and bingo, activities that she not only enjoyed but used as a means to create joyous memories. Also listening to her sing George strait songs.
As we honor the life of Josephine Contreras Flores, we are reminded of her nurturing nature, her resilient spirit, and the unwavering love she had for those around her.
Her presence will be profoundly missed, yet her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched. Josie's journey on earth may have concluded, but the stories of her kindness, generosity, and the love she shared will be recounted for generations to come.
