Josephine Mary (Byrnes) Baldon, 90, of Adel, IA passed away on September 29, 2025 at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, IA. A graveside service for Jo will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, October 6, 2025 at Oakdale Cemetery in Adel with Pastor Tim Johnson officiating. Following the burial the family invites everyone to a luncheon at the Raccoon Valley Community House (1016 Main St. Adel, IA 50003). Memorial contributions can be made to the First Christian Church in Adel or the AHeinz57 Pet Rescue & Transport in DeSoto. Online condolences can be made to the family at www.caldwellparrish.com.
Jo was born on December 25, 1934 to Darwin and Marian (Wright) Byrnes. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1952, and then attended Iowa Methodist School of Nursing. On December 14, 1954 she married William Fred Baldon. Fred and Jo had two sons, William and Timothy. Jo was a homemaker while her sons were growing up. Fred and Jo owned Baldon and Son Plumbing Heating and Cooling for many decades and in 1981 bought the hardware store in Adel. Jo worked at Baldon Hardware and did the bookkeeping.
Fred and Jo enjoyed traveling, especially to Yellowstone National Park and Nashville, Tennessee to the Grand Ole Opry, as well as camping in Roaring River State Park in the Ozarks in Missouri. They enjoyed many years wintering in Mission, Texas. They also loved going to the Drake basketball games to cheer on the Bulldogs. She was an amazing cook and enjoyed playing cards with friends and family. Jo was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 69 years. Also by her brother, Jim Byrnes, her sister, Sally Robinson, her grandson, Chris Baldon, and daughter-in-law, Julie Baldon.
She is survived by her sons, Bill (Cindy) and Tim (Karen) Baldon both of Adel. Her granddaughters Katie (Matt), Jenny (Rick) Baldon and three step-grandchildren, Morgan, Jacob and Lexi Owen. Six great-grandchildren, Connor Baldon, Will and Evelyn Bootier, Westen, Sawyer, and Charlotte Baldon, one step-great grandchild, Olivia Owen, her sister Sharon Jefferson and numerous nieces and nephews.
