Josephine Miller

Josephine Wilhelmina (Boeding) Miller passed away December 1st at the Avantara Nursing Home in Groton, SD. A memorial service will be held at a later date with Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge, SD, in charge of arrangements.
Josie was born July 20, 1924 to Henry and Mary Boeding in Glad Valley, SD. She attended grade school at the Bloom country school near Glad Valley. She graduated from Isabel High School in 1942 and married Gus Miller in 1944. Together they had 5 children: Donna, Gustave (Peg), Monty (Cindy), Julie, and Stacey (Larry) Hepola.
Josie helped her husband with the construction business and in 1960, the family moved to McLaughlin where she became a nurse's aid at the local hospital. Later, she began work at the school as a cook, becoming the head cook for many years until she retired in 1988. She received and appreciated many accolades from the students and teachers.
After retirement, Josie moved to Mobridge where she lived until 2010. She was an avid gardener and a member of the Mobridge Garden club for many years. She was also a passionate reader and a thoughtful note writer. To stay in touch years after graduating, Josie and her high school classmates would keep a "round robin" letter going amongst themselves.
Out of everything, Josie loved her children and grandchildren. Her greatest joy was raising her children and being a part of her grandchildren's lives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gus, daughter Donna, and sister Coletta. She is survived by her 4 children, 12 grandchildren and 13 great grand-children.
