Josephine "Finin" Nieves, a beacon of joy and a source of boundless love, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, at the age of 82 in Brooklyn, NY. Born on October 22, 1943, in Moca, Puerto Rico, Finin was a luminary who brought warmth and light into the lives of all who knew her.
Finin's life was one of devotion-devotion to her faith, her family, and her passions. A steadfast Christian, she embodied the teachings of love and kindness, and her spirit resonated with the grace she found in her belief. She was the cherished mother of Emerito Jr., Edwin, and Jimmy, who each reflect her nurturing love and her enduring strength in their lives.
Her interests were as diverse as they were rich; Finin was an exceptional cook whose culinary creations were not just meals but expressions of her generous soul. She was also an avid reader, with a thirst for knowledge and an appreciation for the worlds that books unlocked. Visiting family was not merely a pastime for Finin, but a joyous celebration of the bonds that tie us together. Traveling was another of her joys, as she sought to experience the beauty and diversity of God's creation. Music, too, was a deep passion-her rhythm and melody a parallel to the harmonious way she lived her life.
Finin's laughter was infectious, her sense of humor a gift that kept on giving. She was the personification of generosity, always ready to give, not just tangibles, but her time, her attention, and her love. To describe Finin as loving, funny, and generous is to capture just a glimpse of the incredible woman she was. Her life was a testament to the power of positivity and the impact one person can have on so many.
Finin would remind us, The purpose of life is to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.Finin lived this truth every day, touching lives and leaving a legacy of love that continues to inspire.
