Josephine Scimia (DelMarco) passed away peacefully at her home on February 6th. She was 95.
A parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, she was a founding member of the Women's Guild where she initiated many activities. One of her greatest joys there was participating in the OLS Knitting Group, crocheting hats for the homeless and children in need around the globe.
As a young girl, during the depression, she caddied at Metropolis Golf Club where she met an ad exec who helped her get a job at the advertising company Weintraub where she worked with Kay Daly on ad campaigns. At night, she attended NYU and received an Associate Degree there. Eventually, she met Carmine, the love of her life, at a wedding. She then took on the task of motherhood and raised five wonderful children. When her children were grown, she decided to go back into the workforce. She then worked for Manhattanville College in the Athletic Department and eventually at Family Services of Westchester in the Adoption Department. She also became an avid golfer, playing well into her later years.
She is survived by her son, Anthony (Meredith) and daughters, Valerie and Lorraine Scimia, Joanne (Frank) Ferri and granddaughters, Abby and Maddy Ferri. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Carmine and daughter, Donna Scimia.
Josephine was a kind, loving person. She will be missed dearly and will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
Visitation will be held at McMahon, Lyon & Hartnett in White Plains on Thursday, February 9th, from 3PM to 7PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10AM at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains on Friday, February 10th.
