Josephine Julia Madrid Wilder, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend went to be with the lord on December 7, 2023, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center in Americus, Georgia. Josie was born December 18, 1936, in Precinct 15, Chaffee County, Salida, Colorado. She was a longtime resident of Stewart County and the surrounding areas for most of her life, having lived in Japan, Pennsylvania, Hawaii and in Germany during the sixties before moving to Georgia. She was married to Jimmy Wilder for 54 years before his passing in 2013. Josie was a veteran of the United States Army having served three years as a dental hygienist before meeting and marrying Jimmy in Okinawa, Japan in 1958.
Josie was a highly respected nurse and colleague in the community; having graduated from South Georgia Technical School as an LPN and later from Georgia Southwestern as a Registered Nurse Josie went on to graduate with a BSN in Nursing Administration from St. Joseph's College. She served many years as an EMT and RN at Stewart-Webster Hospital in Richland, Georgia, as Nurse Supervisor at Sumter Regional Hospital in Americus, Georgia, as Director of Nurses at Patterson Hospital in Cuthbert, Georgia and Four County Health Care in Richland, Georgia. She also worked in Drug Rehab, taught nursing for state funded programs at South Georgia Technical School and volunteered with the MS Society.
Funeral services will be held on December 9, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel with Brother Robert Orr officiating. Family and friends will gather at the home of Ronnie and Stephanie Streetman, located at 2134 State Route 26 W Ellaville, GA on Friday, December 8 from 4:00 PM to 7 PM.
Josie is survived by her three daughters Viveca Anderson (Mitch), Tammy Minick, and Stephanie Streetman (Ronnie), six grandchildren, Chance Anderson (Jenna), Mandi Swanson (Chris), Dylan Minick, Gabby Minick, Travis Streetman, Viveca Jones (Jonathan) and eight great grandchildren, Harper, Kenlee and Hadley Swanson, Claire and Lane Anderson, Lilly and Kinsley Jones and Ma'liyah White along with many nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by three sisters and a brother, Loretta Bustillos and Dorothy Sanchez of Pueblo, Colorado, Tony Madrid of Denver, Colorado, and Frankie Veltri of Phoenix, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Wilder; her parents Tony Madrid and Florinda Archuleta and a brother, Filiberto (Beto) Madrid.
