Josephine Witko, 97 years old of Paramus. Born and raised on Long Island and New York City. Graduated from Washington Irving High School at 16 and worked as a secretary in the Empire State Bldg. and Rockefeller Plaza.
Happily married in 1949 to the love of her life, Walter who passed away in 2016. They moved to Paramus in 1954 where she and Walt raised their family. Devoted Mother of Stephen and his wife Patty, Paul and his wife Diane, and Lorrie and her husband Tom Hammell. Loving grandmother to Emily and her husband AJ Wipfler, Tracy and her companion Michael, Haley and her husband Michael Prijatelj.
In 1972 she began working at East Brook Middle School and was Secretary to the Principal until retiring in 1996. At that time she volunteered at Valley Hospital. She also learned how to play Bridge and played regularly. Through the years she and Walt enjoyed vacations with the family at Cape Cod and the Jersey Shore. After retiring she and Walt toured the USA and Europe and enjoyed cruising. It was a good life!!
We will all remember and miss our JO.
For those wishing to honor Jo's memory, the family requests donations to be made to The Salvation Army, 31 Van Houton Street, Paterson, NJ 07505 or a charity of your choice.
Cremation will be held privately as per her wishes.
