Gundrum Funeral Home & CrematoryWhen you think of Josey you might think of his infectious smile and the giggle that went along with it, his humor, his voice when he would sing or his, ‘Hey, did you know’ followed by some off the wall fact that left you thinking where in the world did he come up with that and shaking your head because it was pretty darn cool. Very few knew the Josey behind all of those personas. Josey could be described as a Thistle in the flower bed of society. While in bloom his beauty was undeniable…get too close and the sting of the needle was painful. Some became desensitized, but most were unable to withstand. Over time the intensity of the sting grew, he distanced himself. His self-doubt and perceived lack of worth was no longer diluted by the love and encouragement given by those willing to withstand the sting. We so often wished the beauty of the bloom would return, hoping it would overpower and relieve the pain from his internal struggles. On June 20th, 2025, Josey surrendered to the struggle and took his life. We will never understand his final decision; some may underestimate the complexity of his struggles. For those that say he chose the easy way out, we can assure you the choice was made after years of battling painful inner conflict and turmoil. If you are unable to accept his answer, please ask yourself if you are truly aware of the issues he faced. Our efforts are no longer spent trying to understand, they have been refocused on acceptance.
Josey could and did participate in an eclectic collection of activities. Josey’s talent greatly stood out in choir and plays. He came to life when he was on stage. He played football, baseball and wrestled. Josey worked at the Walton elevator, the golf course, on a cruise ship, for a general contractor and a plumbing contractor. He sold roof repair and replacement, worked in seed bean handling and as an independent contractor. Josey loved books and thoroughly enjoyed music. You could find him playing golf or a pickup game of basketball, picking out a song on the guitar or sitting with a drink and a smoke. His group of acquaintances and friends was as diverse as his activities. To say he was talented and touched many lives is a gross understatement.
Josey is survived by his mother, Chris, father, Dusty and three younger brothers, Rowdy, Cooper and Jed. He shared an apartment in Kokomo with his best friend, Jaden Younts. Two of his closest companions were a pair of cats named Chicken and Chris, his eyes would light up when he shared stories of their adventures.
We have decided to pay homage to Josey on Saturday, August 16th 2025, at the Logansport Golf Course from 2:00 - 5:00 PM. If you feel inclined to honor Josey, we suggest donating in his name to a library or humane society. Go to a play or a concert. Help Josey’s passions live on. If you find yourself standing in judgement, do not attend. Criticism is not welcomed.
