Josh Russ Miller, age 48, of Crookston, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025, following a hemophilia medical emergency at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, with his mom by his side. He was born August 21, 1977, in Ada, Minnesota.
Josh’s educational journey was spent at several schools, including Fertile-Beltrami, Washington Elementary in Crookston, Luella Merrett in Fort Worth, TX, Ada-Borup West, and Climax-Shelly. This diverse educational background contributed to the well-rounded and thoughtful individual he became.
Despite facing numerous health challenges, Josh approached life with strength and resilience with his admirable, uncomplaining spirit. His positive attitude and determination inspired many around him. He was kind, considerate, and generous. Always attentive and polite, Josh made sure anyone he interacted with felt like they mattered and were important in his life.
In his leisure time, Josh found joy in connecting with family and friends, sharing laughter and creating lasting memories. He was an avid gamer and a devoted fan of the Vikings, relishing every moment he spent watching the team play. His adventurous spirit led him to experience the thrill of many travels, including a trip to New York City to witness the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade and the Rockettes, and enjoying a helicopter flight over the city’s skyline. Other cherished memories include visits to Disneyland, Six Flags in Arlington, and scenic road trips to Colorado, Yellowstone, and Glacier National Parks. One unique highlight of his life was witnessing a Vikings game at the US Bank Stadium.
Josh is survived by his Mother, Laurel Ystenes. Aside from being a wonderful son and tremendous help to his mom, Josh also shared his home with his beloved cat, Princess Josie, who he spoiled rotten. He is also survived by his Aunts and Uncles, Bob Miller, Susen Miller, Diann Prussia, Sharyn Gregor, Elaine Bitker, Karen Ingebretson, Pam Brownmiller, Jan Harpenau, Myrna Cigelske, Dee Larson, Arla Jensrud, Norma Johnson, Eileen Basile, JoAnn Smith, and other beloved family and friends. In the last few years, Josh has spent many hours and special moments playing games with his young 2nd Cousin Kane.
He is preceded in death by his Father, Ross Miller; Paternal Grandparents, Russ and Janice Miller; Maternal Grandparents, William and Augusta Ystenes; Uncles, Willard Ystenes, Gordon Cigelske, Tim Brownmiller, Rick Harpenau, and Willard Johnson; Aunt, Avis Ystenes; Cousins, Shannon Larson, Corey Bitker; and his Furry Friends: Pookie, Spaz, Sabbath and Lucky.
Josh will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
His family will be holding a private Celebration of Life at a later date.
