Joshua Mark Pectol
October 24, 1985 – October 13, 2025
Joshua Mark Pectol, age 39, of Sandy, Utah, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 13, 2025.
Josh was born on October 24, 1985, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Robyn Gay Colbert and Mark Charles Pectol. As the first grandchild on both sides of his family, he was deeply loved and adored from the beginning. For six years, he was the sole pride and joy of his parents before welcoming his younger siblings. He was his mom's best little buddy, making day to day adventures fun, and gained a lifelong love of sports and pizza from his dad. Bright, curious, and tender hearted, Josh cherished bedtime stories and visits from his grandparents-crying each time they had to leave. That sentimental heart stayed with him throughout his life.
Josh graduated from Alpha High School, in Gresham, Oregon,in 2004 and went on to earn an associate degree in Paralegal and Legal Assistant Studies from Everest College.
During his six-year marriage to Nicole Whiting, Josh became the proud father of two sons, Jaycob Joshua Gregory Pectol and Jayson Mark Pectol. His boys were his greatest joy and purpose in life. Every moment with them was treasured, and they will remember him fondly as "the best dad ever." Josh was a devoted family man-fiercely protective and often expressing his gratitude for them. He called his mom daily and was a fun, energetic older brother and uncle.
Josh worked in Facilities and Maintenance at the University of Utah, where he was admired for his genuine gratitude and enthusiasm for his work and willingness to lend a hand to fellow mechanics who needed support. He also spent many years in the pizza business-just like his dad-and could toss a perfect pizza with the best of them.
An outdoor enthusiast, Josh loved snowboarding, spending time in the mountains, at Lake Powell, or on the beach. He was a talented athlete in many sports, with a passion for basketball, both playing and watching. He had a special place in his heart for dogs, rescuing and adopting several throughout the years.
Josh was known for his sharp sense of style-always looking his best with pristine clothes, fresh haircuts, carefully preserved hats and shoes, the latest sunglasses, and just the right amount of cologne. His style lives on through his two handsome sons.
A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Josh had a strong testimony of his Savior Jesus Christ and was deeply proud on the days he baptized his sons.
Just last month, Josh visited Hawaii for the first time with his sons, mother, and other loved ones. He marveled at Hawaii's beauty, swam in the beautiful blue ocean water, and made lasting family memories.
Josh is survived by his beloved sons, Jaycob and Jayson Pectol; his mother, Robyn Colbert (William); his father, Mark Pectol(Jody); his sister, Kelcie Kirkland (Jacob); his brother, Beau Pectol; his maternal grandparents, Ivan and Gay Hill; and many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Clarence and Virginia Pectol, and his maternal great-grandparents Leona Bruderer Hill and Charles and Solena Alvey.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 25th, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel located at 220 East 8670 South, Sandy, Utah. Family and friends may gather for a viewing at the Pioneer Ward from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment will follow at Sandy City Cemetery.
