In Loving Memory of Jovanny Garduño
December 20, 1986 – August 7, 2025
It is with deep sorrow and immense love that we announce the passing of Jovanny Garduño, who took his final breath on August 7, 2025, at 2:50 a.m. He was the beloved son of Violeta Lopez-Unzueta and Julio Cesar Garduno, and a cherished brother to Yazmine, Gizelle, Jonathan, and Julinne.
Jovanny was a one-of-a-kind soul—tough, loving, and fiercely devoted in his own unique way. Above all else, he was a devoted father to his daughter, Sofia Amariz Garduño, the apple of his eye and the light of his life. His love for her was complete, unwavering, and gave his life deep purpose.
As the eldest sibling, Jovanny shouldered great responsibility from a young age. Though his love may not always have been easy to understand, it was always real—rooted in protection, loyalty, and deep care. His siblings knew him as both a father figure and a steadfast supporter, especially during times when it mattered most.
Jovanny found joy in family moments, especially those shared with his many nieces and nephews: Isabella (“his Boos”), Ritchie (“Panda”), Romancito Juan, Luciano (Luchi), Audrey (“the girl”), Anthony, Everlee, Ezequiel, and Josiah (“the boy”). He was playful, affectionate, and always full of happiness when surrounded by them. His heart extended to his beloved tías, and his cousins held a special place in his world.
A memory fondly recalled by his mother was Jovanny returning home from preschool singing:
"I am special, I am special, yes I am, yes I am. There is no one like me, there is no one like me. I’m unique." These words became a reflection of who he was—a truly unique and irreplaceable soul.
Jovanny’s educational journey included Wilmington Middle School and his participation in the Angel’s Gate Academy, a summer program he often credited with positively shaping his life. Later, at San Pedro High School, he joined the Magnet Police Academy Program, where he gained a sense of responsibility and service to the community that he carried into adulthood. A favorite memory of his was a high school project where he imagined a trip to France, which he completed with great pride. He later attended college, where he learned to live independently and began building a life of his own.
His life was filled with stories, jokes, laughter, and meaningful experiences. He loved to travel, especially on memorable family trips, including a special summer journey to Arizona. One of his last and most joyful outings was a trip to Knott’s Berry Farm, where he created lasting memories with his nieces and nephews—especially with Romancito Juan. Jovanny treasured making memories. His time spent traveling with his daughter Sofia was especially dear to him and will forever remain carved in her heart.
Professionally, Jovanny worked as a Cinema Security Officer, and his assignments often brought him to film sets. He would return home filled with excitement, sharing stories of who he met—including a favorite memory of taking a photo with actor Jason Statham. He also shared being onset during the filming of Pirates of the Caribbean.
Jovanny had many passions. He loved wrestling, enjoyed a good movie, connecting with nature and especially took pride in cooking. He never missed a chance to impress others with his culinary skills, often lighting up the kitchen with both flavor and joy.
Those who knew Jovanny will remember him as a man of great heart —imperfect but passionate, rocky yet deeply loving. His laughter, stories, and the memories he created will echo in the lives of those he touched.
Jovanny Garduno is survived by his daughter Sofia Amariz, his parents Violeta and Julio, his four siblings, nieces and nephews, extended family, and countless others who were blessed to know him.
He will be missed more than words can express and lovingly remembered forever.
