Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tasker Funeral Home - Dover on Apr. 27, 2023.
Joy Johnson was much beloved for her infectious optimism, witty sense of humor, and radiant kindness. After receiving a cancer diagnosis three years ago, she inspired everyone with her fighting spirit and zest for life. She died peacefully on April 6th, 2023 at the age of 63, surrounded by loved ones.
Joy grew up in
Melrose, Massachusetts, the oldest of 6 children. She married the first love of her life, Johnny Johnson, with whom she spent 34 happy years. They settled in Wakefield, NH with their three children and built many beautiful memories-hiking, camping, snow shoeing, yearly trips to the Highland Games, adventures in the Jeep, panning for gold, and hosting Joy's famous annual Christmas party.
For over two decades, Joy worked at Profile Bank, retiring as assistant bank manager. She was much loved by her customers and coworkers. While there, she launched a special project to provide backpacks and school supplies to underserved children. The PACS program (Profile Advancing Children's Success) is a lasting legacy of her generous nature.
After the passing of Johnny, Joy found the second love of her life, Jerry Rowe. Together they shared a love of gardening, canning their bounty to share with loved ones, kayaking, traveling to far-off places, the thrill of scoring antiques at an auction, and a goofy, fun-loving sense of humor.
Those left to cherish Joy's memory include her partner, Jerry Rowe; son, Matt Johnson and his wife Tiffany; daughter, Kim Morel and her husband Dale; daughter, Aislinn Pluta, her husband Daniel, and granddaughter Azalia; parents, Carol and Frederick Fletcher; siblings, Scott and Lisa Fletcher, Debbie and Gerry Shannon, Sandy and Tony Andreassi, Steven and Helene Fletcher, and Bruce and Melanie Fletcher; sisters-in-heart, Eileen Jacobson, Diane Diamond, and some very dear friends; and dozens of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by Jerry's family, with whom she was very close, particularly grandchildren Leona and Trinity Rowe. She was preceded in death by her husband John C. Johnson.
To honor this wonderful woman, a celebration of life will take place May 22nd between 1-4pm at the Waterfront at The Elks, 500 Jones Ave, Portsmouth, NH. We invite anyone who knew and loved her to attend. Light refreshments and a cash bar will be available. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wentworth Douglass Foundation, 789 Central Avenue, Dover NH 03820, in memory of Joy Johnson and with a designation to the Seacoast Cancer Center-so that others may receive the same level of exceptional care given to Joy, without financial hardship.
