Joy Catherine Stanley Shipman, age 54, of Corbin, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the UK Bluegrass Hospice Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
Born on June 8, 1970, in Corbin, Kentucky, Joy, was a woman of immeasurable strength and infectious cheer. Joy lived by her name, spreading happiness and love wherever she went, a beacon of light in the lives of those she encountered. She enjoyed fishing and the creativity of crafting, and the warmth of her family's company especially her grandkids.
Joy is survived by her mother, Esther Morgan; husband, James Shipman; children, Thomas Stanley (Samantha), James Shipman, Takota Shipman (Christina), Jovanna Shipman Vanover (Patrick); nine grandchildren; siblings, Larry Stanley (Suggi), Lisa Stanley Ragen, Billy Stanley, Sondra Stanley, Keith Stanley (Christy), Richard Stanley, Jay Farnstrom, Jonathan Stanley, and Susan Farnstrom Helton; stepsisters, Debbie Morgan, Bonnie Morgan Powell; and by numerous nieces, nephews, other family, and friends who will all mourn her passing.
She was preceded in death by her father, J. B. Stanley; son, Cain Shipman; grandparents, Will McKinley Rains and Nancy Elizabeth Sikes Rains, Bill Stanley, and Catherine Ray Stanley Keck; sister, Crystal Gayle Stanely; stepfather, Jessie V. Morgan; and stepsister, April Morgan.
Joy lived a life that was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and, indeed, joy. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know her. She was a woman who made the world a brighter place, and although she may have departed from this world, her spirit will continue to shine in the hearts of those she loved.
Visitation for Joy Shipman will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, from 11 am until 1 pm at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, where her funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday with Rev. Mike Lee officiating.
Burial will follow in the Alsip Cemetery in Whitley County, Kentucky.
