Joyce Addison Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Summit Funeral & Cremation on Apr. 26, 2023.
Joyce C. Addison of Coon Rapids, Minnesota passed away on April 24, 2023, at the age of 94 at the Park River Estates Care Center after a brief illness and living a full life.
Joyce was born October 15, 1928, in Flandreau, South Dakota. She was the first of five children and grew up in Chester, South Dakota on a very rustic farm just west of town. Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, of almost 70 years, Curtis, and a son James. She is also survived by two sons Jonathan and Joel (Kay).
Joyce graduated from Chester High School and continued her education getting a teaching certificate from Beedle College. For seven years she taught school in small communities in South Dakota. Joyce married her husband and true love Curtis while he was on leave from the Navy as a Machinist Mate 3rd Class. Early in their marriage, they lived in San Francisco and San Diego before coming back to Minnesota and initially settling in Lexington, Minnesota. Curt and Joyce moved to Coon Rapids, Minnesota in 1977 and she lived there until late 2022. Joyce enjoyed sewing, baking, and doing phone work for the church. Joyce also played an active role in the church where she was an assistant to the church secretary while living in Lexington. For most of her life she was a mother and homemaker, but also enjoyed an occasional trip to a casino and visiting with relatives.
Joyce is also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and a sister. She has one remaining sibling, her sister, Carol Ziegler of Mitchell, South Dakota. Joyce was an aunt to many nieces and nephews and even more as a great aunt. Her smile and demeanor will be missed.
Many thanks to the support staff at Park River Estates Care Center for the care and friendship during her stay and to the people that had influence on her during the last moments of her life. She is now with the love of her life and in the memories of those that she met.
Joyce requested to be inurned at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with her husband Curtis. There will be a celebration of life for both Curtis and Joyce and a small service on July 15, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at:

My Auntie - what happened to 105?!?! Now it is all up to Aunt Carol!!! I am keeping up with the daily check-in´s just as Mom would have wanted but I know she is missing you all something fierce. I picture Uncle Curt sitting beside you two grinning from ear-to-ear holding your hand while you and mom have your heads together speaking the sisterly language only you two truly understand and smiling like you are about to get into mischief - which knowing the two of you - you probably will! Try and behave - PLEASE - and, remember BOTH OF YOU not to spoil Uncle Curt too much or let Cousin James weasel his way out of anything with that big goofy grin of his!!! What a crazy year we have had so far. Auntie I am going to miss your soft spoken and gentle soul on this earthly plane - until we meet again - just know you will be missed greatly, celebrated often and loved always!!!

Thank you for all the laughs, the heartfelt talks and our girls day out. Thank you for being that angel in my life. Thank you for the many times you and Curt would sit in our back yard visiting. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge and our bond as we both were teachers. Thank you for sharing your faith in God. I called you JoycEE. My friend forever.

Oh, Aunt Joyce ... I think of you dancing in the arms of your husband, Curt, who knew when he first saw you, you were going to be his wife for life and beyond. I treasure his smile when he spoke of your meeting - and know that he is smiling with you today. Thank you for the time we shared and your laughs at our silliness. Most of all, thank you for being there for my family... and your grace. I love you to the heavens and back. Keep dancing.
