Joyce MimMack Boice, age 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 8, 2025, after a life full of love and devotion to her family and community. She was born on August 25, 1933, in Schenectady, NY. She married her sweetheart, the late Robert Calvin Boice on October 4, 1953. Joyce was very proud of her home on Goode Street, she ensured the house was recognized as a historical Pioneer Farm in the region. In addition to loving her home, Joyce was very creative with a love for card making, gardening, sewing, cooking and baking. She supported lots of community members and organizations by catering events, baking celebration cakes, sewing curtains and bridesmaid dresses, making high school girls' sports uniforms, and more currently she was sewing buttons and mending holes for her fellow assisted living women. Her love of cooking lead her to be an adult learner, Joyce was very proud of her accomplishment to earn an associate's degree in culinary arts at Schenectady County Community College. Joyce started working for the Burnt Hills- Ballston Lake Central School District in 1968 as a school bus driver and over the years she became a Master School Bus Instructor. She enjoyed a fulfilling career and was promoted to the Supervisor of Transportation. After her retirement, she continued to maintain the Master Instructor Certification and trained future bus drivers to ensure the safety of the children. In 2000, she was recognized by the New York Association of Pupil Transportation (NYAPT) Hall of Fame for outstanding service to the pupil transportation industry and awarded a lifetime member of the NYAPT. Joyce was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, participating in many ministries and she was named Woman of Distinction for the Albany diocese. Joyce was a honorary member of the Burnt Hills Fire Department Auxiliary, she was a past officer and committee person for over 70 years. Joyce was a member of Charlton Seniors and enjoyed participating in their activities.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Calvin Boice, her parents, Howard and Catherine (Quinn) MimMack, her brothers, George MimMack and William MimMack, and her sisters, Marion Buzzetti, June Boyack, Betty Hahn, and Doris Pisano.
She is survived by her five children, Shirley Kane of Ithaca, NY, Debra Hodgson (Robert) of Ballston Spa, NY, Bonny Boice (Gary Bojarski) of Charlton, NY, Robert C. Boice Jr., (Sharron) of Morrisonville, NY, and Kathleen "Kitty" DeSocio (Chris) of Genoa, NV. Joyce was a loving Nana to her seven grandchildren, Dennis Hodgson (Stephanie), Saratoga, NY, Nathan Hodgson (Rachel), Burnt Hills, NY, Robert C. Boice III "Bobbi" Gutierrez (Gabe), Sacramento, CA, Lauren Seward Sgambati (John), Malta NY, Derek Seward (Leah Farrell), Reno, NV, Tyler Boice, Morrisonville, NY. and Makenzie Boice (Sami Gonyea), Morrisonville, NY. Joyce had the pleasure of loving her four great-grandchildren, Molly Hodgson, Tess Hodgson, Lindsey Joyce Hodgson, Theodore Boice and one step great-grandchild, Naiomi Rotando.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Sunday, September 14, 2025, from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM, at Our Lady of Grace Church, 73 Midline Road, Ballston Lake, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 3:00 PM at the church.
Interment will be held privately for the family at Briggs Cemetery, Ballston Spa, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
