Joyce was born in Washington Georgia and reared in Thomson Georgia, where she graduated from Thomson High School. She obtained a bachelors' degree, then later her Master of Education and Education Specialist degrees, from Georgia College in Milledgeville. Joyce began a fruitful career as a primary school teacher in Monticello, Eatonton and the Washington County School System, from which she retired. She relished the fact that she taught generations of children to read. She was a lover of Music and formerly sang in the Sandersville United Methodist Church Choir. Joyce loved all flowers, but her favorite was the sunflower. One of her favorite pastimes was playing cards with special friends, which she often hosted in her home. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph B. Rogers and Alena Clemens Rogers and her sister Joe Ann McGahee.
Survivors include her loving husband of 38 years, Randy Branan; sons, Charles D. Branan and his wife Michelle of Marietta and James E. Branan and his wife Ashlyn of Covington; grandchildren Liam and Luna Branan; her aunt, Sylvia Rogers of Thomson; brothers-in-law Van Branan and his wife Violet of Deepstep and Royce Branan and his wife Annette of Clayton; and dear friends, Tony and Lee Ann Cladin of Perry.
