Mrs. Yong Sun Yun Young, age 80, of Eatonton, GA, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at her residence. Mrs. Young surrendered peacefully after a brief battle with stomach cancer. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, August 30th at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Elder Kenneth Brantley will officiate. Bobby Young, Brian Young, Chris Young, Jon Young, Blake Giesbrecht, Chandler Giesbrecht and Jacob Pool will serve as pallbearers. The Young family will receive friends on Friday from 4:00 p.m. Until 6:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.

Yong Sun was born just outside of Seoul, South Korea on May 11, 1945. At age 24, while working as a civilian employee at the U.S. Army Base, Camp Humphries in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, she met the love of her life, Russell. He was serving his country in the U.S. Army. In 1970, they married in Korea and moved to the United States. After a short time in Tennille, GA, they moved to Clarksville, GA, before relocating to Fitzgerald, GA, in 1973. While there, she proudly became a naturalized United States Citizen, a milestone she treasured deeply. In 1975, they moved to Bartow, GA where she worked for the Jefferson County School System for 21 years. After retiring, they settled in Eatonton, GA at Lake Oconee and fulfilled a lifelong dream of living on the lake.

Her hobbies included gardening, floral design, crocheting and knitting. She also enjoyed camping, traveling, and playing games. Yong Sun particularly enjoyed cooking for family and friends.

She was a dedicated member of Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist Church in Tennille, GA. Throughout her entire life, she had an unwavering faith and devotion to God.

Her proudest accomplishments and most enjoyable moments came from family. A loving husband, two children and five grandchildren were her life.

Yong Sun is survived by her husband of 55 years, Joe Russell Young; her children, Audrey Nipper and her husband Nathan of Vilas, North Carolina and Michael Young and his wife Angela of Rutledge, Georgia; her five beloved grandchildren, Emily Nipper, Natalie Nipper, Noah Young, Melanie Nipper and Lindsey Young; her brother, Mahn Hun of Incheon, South Korea; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Byung Shup Yoon (Yun) and Gyum Sun Lee; and her siblings Jae Hun Yoon, Sung Hun Yoon, Do Hun Yoon, Jung Hun Ahn, and Bong Sun Yoon.

The family suggests donations be made in Yong Sun's memory to Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist Church at 154 Mt. Gilead Church Road, Tennille, GA 31089.
