Joyce Mae Burks

Joyce Mae Burks was born to Gibb and Alfa Mae Younger Sweat in Adamsville, TN on April 18, 1936. She departed this life on January 9, 2025 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 88 Years, 8 Months, 22 Days. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Gibb and Alfa Mae Younger Sweat; step mother, Helen Sweat; first husband, Jim Henry Gray; second husband, T. W. Burks; son, Jimmy Dan Gray; brothers: Junior Ray, Jerry, Jerome, Robert Larry, and Terry Sweat; and stepsons, Travis and Chris Burks.

Joyce is survived by her three sisters: Faye Jaggars (Larry), Judy Mitchell (Larry), and Brenda Tucker; two brothers, Lucky Sweat (Glenda) and Steve Sweat (Sherry); a stepdaughter, Brenda Teasdale of Michie, TN; 5 step grandchildren; 12 step great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and many wonderful friends. She never met a stranger.

Joyce worked for Garan Corporation for 44 years, retiring in 1999. She truly enjoyed traveling with her son Jimmy, sharing photos and stories, family get togethers, and remembering years gone by as the eldest of the family.

Joyce experienced many hardships in her life, standing strong in all and never failing to say where her help came from - God above and her Baptist belief.

Being known simply as sister or aunt Joyce, her presence will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
