Heaven gained one of the kindest and most vibrant spirits on May 30, 2025. Joyce Marie
Crumer, age 73, lived a life full of love, laughter, and compassion - a life that touched
the hearts of everyone who had the blessing of knowing her.
Though Joyce did not have a formal church home, she was a strong believer in God and
carried a deep, personal relationship with Him throughout her life. Her faith showed in
the way she loved others, gave without hesitation, and always extended grace. She lived
by her own quiet testimony - one of kindness, humility, and unconditional love.
Born and raised in St. Louis City, Joyce was a devoted mother, loving sister, amazing
grandmother, and cherished friend. She cared deeply for her family, especially her son
Damian, who lived courageously with astrocytoma until the age of 18. Her dedication to
caregiving shaped her life's path.
She attended Central High School (St. Louis) but left school early to begin working and
helping support her family. One of her first jobs was at Busch Stadium, where she
proudly worked during a vibrant and memorable time in the city's history. Afterward, she
began working in various daycare facilities, where her love for children was naturally
evident. She later discovered her true calling as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA),
caring for others with compassion and dignity until her retirement at the age of 65.
Joyce was the proud mother of Marvin "Marv", Derric "Buddy", Tiffany "Tiff" (Sean-
son in love), Charles "Chuck", and Damian "Dame". She was preceded in death by
Derrick and Damian, and by her loving parents, Clarence Sammy Crumer and Bernice
Victoria Crumer (Turner).
Joyce was known for her joyful personality (with infectious laugh), her love of music,
dancing, singing, (DJing for her peers), spades, bingo, and her impeccable sense of style;
always coordinating her headwraps, shoes, and purses to perfection. Joyce also had a
sense of humor that could light up any room. She had a gift of making people feel seen
and loved, often giving everyone their own special nickname, a reflection of the affection
and connection she felt toward them. Her warmth and laughter left a lasting impression
on all who knew her.
She was also a phenomenal cook, the kind who didn't just feed you, but made you feel
cared for. Joyce loved to cook for family, friends, neighbors - anyone in need of a good
meal or a little extra love. She also enjoyed teaching others how to cook and passing
along recipes and traditions. And of course, she loved to shop - whether for ingredients,
outfits, or thoughtful gifts, she always had an eye for detail and a heart for giving. She
gave freely, loved deeply, and left a mark on every heart she touched.
Joyce leaves behind a legacy of love in her grandchildren: Alexis "Lex", Tavian "Tay",
Takira "Kira", Trinity "Trin", Malik "Lik", Tayler "Taylee", Charles Jr., Chalice, Liana,
and Celsi - and one great-grandson, Tytan, whom she did not get to meet due to her
untimely illness, but loved dearly from afar.
Joyce is also survived by her siblings: Larry, Kenneth "Kenny", Gregory "Master G",
Jeffrey "Jesse", Steve "Stebo", and Sandra" Sandy" (Wendell). She was preceded in
death by her siblings, Sharon Ann (Lloyd), James "Jim Jam", Jean (Robert), and Donnie.
She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including a
special niece, Mona who held a very dear place in her heart.
She will be missed more than words can say - but her spirit will live on in the lives she
shaped, the family she loved, and the countless memories she created.
