Joyce Glenna Durrant Decaria, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025, at the age of 71, after courageously battling cancer for over three years.
Joyce was known for her kind spirit, generous heart, and joyful presence. She had a natural way of making people feel welcome-whether she was hosting a holiday gathering, preparing her home for Christmas, or simply offering a warm smile. Her love for family was the center of everything she did.
She found joy in life's simple and meaningful moments: gardening, crafting, family game nights, and cheering for her favorite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves. A devoted fan, she and her husband, Frank, visited 20 Major League Baseball parks as well as the Tokyo Dome in Japan-always finding joy in the journey and the experience.
Joyce had a long and successful professional life. She began her career as a beautician, working in salons in the Ogden area for over ten years before transitioning into education. For thirty years, she served as a library media coordinator and facilitated online college courses for accelerated high school students, leaving a lasting impact on many young lives.
An award-winning photographer, Joyce had a special gift for seeing and capturing beauty. Her work won numerous awards at the Utah State Fair, the Davis County Fair, and through the Ogden Camera Club, where she also served as treasurer and secretary for many years. Her photos were featured in newspapers, bank calendars, and gallery exhibits across Ogden City, Davis County, Clinton City, and Weber State College, as well as published on various websites.
Joyce was also deeply talented with computers and creative projects. She used her skills to create and self-publish dozens of books for family and friends-cookbooks, family biographies, photo collections, children's stories for her grandchildren, and travelogues from the many adventures she took with her loved ones. She and Frank traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Belize, and Japan, often with their loving family or cherished friends, creating wonderful memories along the way.
A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Joyce faithfully served in many callings, including Young Women's, the Ward Library, Cub Scouts, and Boy Scouts. She and Frank cherished their two-year service mission at the former Ogden Genealogical Center, reflecting her deep love of family history. She also served on the Ward Activities Committee and as a Temple and Family History Consultant.
Joyce's life was a beautiful example of love in action-gentle, joyful, and deeply generous. Her warmth, laughter, creativity, and unwavering love will be missed deeply by all who knew her.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Frank; her sons and daughters-in-law: Cory and Mihoko (Ito), Ryan and Suzanne (Workman), and Devin and Denise (Schumacher); her seven cherished grandchildren: Ethan, Xander, Jonah, Noah, Ray, Beckham, and Zaylee; her brother and sister-in-law, Don and Peggy Durrant; and her sister, Susan Hamblin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Paul Durrant; her brother, Val Durrant; and her beloved granddaughter, Bethany Decaria.
