Joyce Johnson Duke, 86, a resident of Pensacola, Fl. Born 06/05/1939 in Bonifay, Fl,
Has gone to be with our Lord Jesus Christ. Joyce worked over 50+ years in
Hematology/Oncology with Dr. Thomas Jenkins at Nemours Children's Hospital, doing
her part to make the world a better place. One patient at a time. She is preceded in
death by her God-fearing husband Bob Duke, son John Thompson, granddaughter
Sierra Dawn Cuff,, mother and father George and Annie Johnson, brother Robert
Johnson, stepson Rocky Duke, nephew Ricky Frizzell and her sisters Christine Howell
and Gerell Frizzell.
She is survived by her daughter and son in law Sean and Donna Ayre, stepsons Pat
Duke and Danny Duke, step granddaughter Brittany Needles, three grandsons, AJ Cuff,
Sean Ayre II, Jonathan Croxton, her sister and Brother in-law Gwen and Jerry Mowery.
Nieces and nephews Rory Frizzell(Debbie), Joe Jackson (Mary), Debbie Lamb
(Ronnie), Steve Mowery, Marcia Wieborg (Gary), Jerry Howell (Lori), Bobby
Johnson(Dina) and Tony Johnson. As well as numerous great and great-great nieces
and nephews.
Joyce touched many lives not only in her career as a nurse, but in her community
through her outreach with Ensley First Baptist Church. Volunteering her time to help the
homeless and work VBS. She adored and cherished her family and friends dearly. She
cherished every moment she got to spend with her family, including many boating trips
in the summer, trips to Disney World, family reunions, birthday parties, and gatherings at
the church. She was a very loving, sympathetic, empathetic, compassionate, and kind
woman. She will be missed dearly by her friends, family and community.
Funeral service will be at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Saturday, July
12, 2025 at 2pm with Gary Wieborg officiating and Benji Linder assisting.
Family viewing from 12-1. Friends 1-2 and services begin at 2pm with graveside immediately to follow.
The family would like to thank Vitas Hospice inpatient at West Florida Hospital for their
compassion and wonderful care during her final days.
