Joyce Ann (Adams) Dunn, affectionately known as Joy, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025, at the age of 84, at Crandall Medical Center in
Sebring, Ohio. Born on April 20, 1940, in Sharon, West Virginia, she was the cherished daughter of James Calvin and Madge Lucille Savage Adams.
A proud graduate of East Bank West Virginia High School, class of 1958, Joy began her professional journey as an administrative secretary for the governor of West Virginia and later at the Diamond Department Store. In 1968, she moved to Ohio, where she continued her secretarial career before finding her passion as an activities director at the former Essex of Salem. She dedicated herself to this role until her retirement at the age of 75.
Joy's love for music and her faith were central to her life. She was a long-standing member of Harvest Baptist Church, where she played the piano and lifted spirits with her musical talent. Her voice was a staple in the church's services, and she found joy in singing with her women's trio, the Melodyaires, alongside her good friends Joanne Menning and the late Mary Lou Rufer.
She is survived by her children, Luanne (Mivan) Sweely, James Michael Daniel, and Mark Adams Daniel (Diana). She was a grandmother to three grandchildren, Sarah (Dan) Benner, Kylie Daniel, and Zachary Daniel, and a great-grandmother to Kent and Parker Benner. Her extended family includes many cousins from West Virginia and Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Dunn, and her two infant sisters, Rosalind and Mary Sue, as well as many beloved aunts and uncles.
An Open House Luncheon to celebrate Joy's life will be held Saturday, April 12, 2025 from 12 Noon to 2:00 p.m. at First Friends Church, where family and friends can gather to share memories and honor her life.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff at Crandall Medical Center and Aultman Alliance Hospice for their compassionate care during Joy's final days.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Crandall Medical Center Activities Funds of Aultman Alliance Hospice.
