Joyce J. Evans, age 94, of Panama City Beach, Florida, passed away on September 4, 2025.
Born on October 14, 1930, in Atlanta, Georgia, Joyce was the beloved wife of the late Robert J. "Bob" Evans and the devoted mother of Christine Evans Steadman, the late Nancy K. Weyandt, and the late Michael L. Evans.
Joyce grew up in Albany, Georgia, and graduated from Albany High School. She met her husband, Bob, while he was on military active duty in Albany, Georgia. The couple shared 62 wonderful years together, during which they had the unique experience of living in Germany for 15 years due to Bob's work with the West German Military. Living "on the economy," Joyce and Bob made lifelong friends and created cherished
memories while traveling throughout Europe.
A passionate lover of music, Joyce discovered her love for Barbershop Harmony after retiring to her family home in Albany. She joined Sweet Adelines International, where she became a consummate performer and a well-known figure in the Barbershop Harmony community. Known for her custom, hand-sewn outfits that she often shared with her Sweet Adelines friends, Joyce truly embraced the organization's motto: "Harmonize the World." She also enjoyed participating in Sweet Adeline conventions and competitions, traveling across the Southeast and even to Hawaii.
In 1993, Joyce and Bob moved to Panama City Beach, Florida, where Joyce became an active member of the Harmony Shores chapter of Sweet Adelines, continuing her love for music and her commitment to bringing harmony to those around her.
Joyce is survived by her daughter Christine Evans Steadman (Robert), brother George M. Jones, and sister Sonja "Sunny" Pritchard. She was pre-deceased by her husband Robert J. Evans, daughter Nancy K. Weyandt, and son Michael L. Evans.
Additional survivors include son-in-law Jerry Weyandt, Sr. (Joy), daughter-in-law Pamela Evans (Randy), and her loving cat, Champagne (Chammie).
Her grandchildren include Jerry Weyandt, Jr. (Kristin), Karen Weyandt Whitmer, Robert Weyandt, and Marcia Ardizzone (Joe). Joyce was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Conner Weyandt, Riley Whitmer, Jordan Weyandt (Nathan Snyder), Keaton Weyandt and Zachery Keiper, as well as a great-great-grandchild, Calum
Snyder.
But most of all, Joyce will be dearly missed by her close friend Monika Austin, with whom she shared more than 50 years of cherished friendship.
In lieu of a memorial service, the family requests that donations be made in Joyce's memory to
Samaritan's Purse or the Bay County, Florida Humane Society.
Joyce will always be remembered for her love of family, music, and the many ways she touched the lives of those around her. She was a woman of grace, kindness, and harmony, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
