It is with profound sadness and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Joyce Feury, beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and friend. Joyce passed peacefully on Wednesday, June 26th, 2024, at the age of 75.
Joyce was born on September 4th, 1948, in Paterson, New Jersey to the late Jules and Mary Marins. Raised initially in Paterson and then Fair Lawn, New Jersey with her sister, Carol, she attended Saint Anne's Catholic primary school in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. Joyce then attended St. Luke's High School before entering the nursing school program at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, New Jersey, graduating in 1968. It was during her high school years that she met the love of her life, James Feury.
In December of 1969, James and Joyce were wed and were inseparable. Together, they built a beautiful family, welcoming two children into the world: Kevin and Brian. James and Joyce raised their family in Mahwah, New Jersey. During the course of her career, Joyce helped thousands of patients while working at Valley Hospital, then as a nurse with Bergen West Pediatric Center and then as a nurse case manager for New Jersey Manufacturers Group. She was a dedicated nurse with a reputation for always advocating for proper patient care. Her personality and commitment to the profession undoubtedly improved countless people's lives.
Joyce loved gardening, cooking and travelling. She often joked about her passion for plants, walking around various nurseries during her lunch hours and having to sneak her purchases into the yard when her husband wasn't looking. She took classes at the Culinary Institute of America and the New York Cooking School before it was fashionable to do so. She shared that love of cooking with her sons and granddaughter. Her other love was the Maine and Irish coastlines. She could spend hours and hours just looking out at the water and watching the lobster boats working the seas.
Joyce was the devoted mother to children, Kevin and his wife Susan and Brian and his wife Justine. He was also the cherished grandmother of Kaitlyn. And loved her son's dog, Aspen. Joyce was predeceased by her loving husband, James on May 18, 2024.
The family will receive their family and friends at the Vander Platt Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ on Sunday, June 30, 2024, from 1:00 - 5:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held at St. Elizabeth RC Church, 700 Wyckoff Ave., Wyckoff, NJ on Monday, July 1 at 11:00 AM. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.vpfh.com/obituary/Joyce-Feury. Joyce will be interred alongside her husband at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, New Jersey.
