Joyce Humphress, 92, of Danville passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. She was born in Indianapolis on March 16, 1933, the daughter of the late Thompson “Tommy” and Thelma Stevens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fonzie Humphress on November 18, 2012; her brother, Dean Stevens and her sister, Jean Davis.
Joyce grew up in Danville graduating with the class of 1951. She met her future husband while standing outside of the Danner’s Five and Dime selling poppies for veterans. She worked at the Danville Christian Church Disciples of Christ as the secretary for 25 years. She will be missed for her enduring love for her family, her friends and her faith.
Joyce is survived by two daughters, Janet (Edward) Moore of Coatesville, IN and Jean (Zan) Eskelson of Seymore, IN; grandchildren, Andrea (Frank) Essig, Shaya Firkins and Dustin Firkins; great grandchildren, Timothy Firkins, Frankie, Alexandra and Matthew Essig.
The family will receive friends at the Helton & Harris Funeral Home, Danville, on Thursday, October 2, 2025 from 11:00 am until the service time at 1:00 pm. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the New Winchester Cemetery.
