Joyce Mercer Jones, 84, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Gaston County on September 22, 1941 to the late Reverend Foy C. Mercer and Mary Bagwell Mercer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Brother, Reverend Roger Mercer; and step-daughter, Wanda Jones.
She was a true preachers daughter who loved going to church and devoted member of the Church of God. When she could get away she enjoyed going to the mountains and camping. Most of all she loved her family, especially her children. She leaves many happy memories to be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 43 years, Richard Jones; sons, Keith Grigg (Madeline) and Scott Grigg (Sherry); step-son, Rick Jones; step-daughters, Dianne Hill and Linda Anderson (Otis); 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather for visitation from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Monday, February 2, 2026 at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home. A graveside service will take place at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery, 1508 Charles Raper Jonas Highway, Mount Holly, North Carolina, on Tuesday February 3, 2026 at 1:00 pm with Reverend Joe Heffner officiating.
