Steven Dale Harvell, 77, of Gastonia, North Carolina, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at CaroMont Regional medical Center.
A lifelong resident of Gaston County, Steve was born on July 28, 1948, to the late Torrence and Lois Harvell. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, carrying that steady sense of duty with him throughout his life.
Steve was a faithful member of Sparrow Springs Independent Baptist Church. He believed in doing things the right way, even if it took a little longer. He loved fishing, hunting, working in his garden, and rebuilding Ford 8N tractors piece by piece. If something was broken, Steve would study it, tinker with it, and bring it back to life. Many would say if Steve couldn't fix it, it simply couldn't be fixed.
Above all, he loved his family. They were his greatest joy and proudest legacy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Madison Noel, and his son-in-law, Joe Webb.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of more that 54 years, Debbie Harvell; daughters, Traci Webb and Kerri "Sissi" Faile (Joe); brother, Tim Harvell; sister, Jan Merritt; grandchildren, Taylor Ward (Brandon), Micah and Piper Faile; and great-grandchildren, Ben, Jake, and Ellie Ward. Each of them carries forward his strength, his quiet wisdom, and the example he set every day.
A funeral service officiated by Pastor Gene Bates will be held Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 3:00 PM in the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 1503 South York Road, Gastonia, NC 28052. The family will receive friends Monday, February 23, 2026, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Steve will be laid to rest with military honors at Westview Gardens Cemetery.
