Joyce Kammeyer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home - Jacksonville on Feb. 12, 2026.
Joyce Ann Kammeyer, age 86, passed from her earthly life to the arms of Jesus on February 11, 2026.

Joyce was born to Dalton and Ruby Meyer in 1939 at the family farm in Sumner, Iowa. She loved growing up on a dairy farm, working hard alongside her siblings, whether it was feeding and milking the cows, driving the tractor, or pitching hay from the loft.

In 1958, she married Lyle Kammeyer; they moved to Lonoke, Arkansas, shortly thereafter. Joyce's most treasured experience was raising their three children, Teri, Brett, and Todd. She adored her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Besides her faith, loving others and being loved was what mattered to her the most.

Joyce was a bookkeeper for most of her life. She was a long-time bookkeeper at J.D. Wood, Inc., the John Deere dealership in Lonoke. She kept the books for Lyle's many endeavors until his death, as well as for many individuals. Her long dining room table was always covered in paperwork!

Her faith in God drove so many of her life's activities. Joyce founded and ran a non-profit, called S.M.I.L.E. A.L.O.T. (Simply Making Incarcerated Life Easier and Loving Others Too). Through this organization, she corresponded with hundreds of women inmates at an Illinois prison. Through her letters, she encouraged them in their struggles. She sent countless money orders so the women could pay for necessary items that prisons don't provide. She sent hundreds of Bibles and Christian books to women who had requested them.

Joyce's love for these women was unconditional, just like the love she showed to her family and others. Joyce will be remembered for her love, her faith in Jesus, her encouragement to others, and her tenacity to get things done.

Joyce is pre-deceased by her parents, Dalton and Ruby Meyer; husband, Lyle Kammeyer; son, Brett Kammeyer; sister, Jeanette Hoth; and brother, Robert Meyer.

She is survived by her children, Teri (Rik) Sowell and Todd Kammeyer; grandchildren, Brooklyn (Nate) Madding, Drew (Kate) Moffitt , Wesley (Alicia) Kammeyer, Victoria (Eric) Smith and Josh McIntyre; great-grandchildren, Haley, Avianna, Jonathan, Olana, Madeleine, Juliette, and Margot; brothers, Ron (Dixie) Meyer and Merlin (Judy) Meyer; sister-in-law, Ilene Meyer; brother-in-law, Marlowe Hoth; and daughter-in-law, Angela Kammeyer.

Joyce's service will be in the funeral chapel at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home, 1504 N JP Wright Loop Road, Jacksonville, Arkansas, on Monday, February 16, at 2 pm. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Bro. Tom Smith will preside. Entombment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park following the service.

The family wishes to thank Magnolia Landing and its staff for their loving care for Joyce in her last few weeks on earth. The family also extends sincere appreciation to Gentiva Hospice for their devoted, comforting care.
