Joyce Amaryllis Nutt

Joyce Amaryllis Smith Nutt, age 88, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024. She was born November 3, 1935 in Jacksonville, Texas to John Dwight Smith and Nettie Menge Smith.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Jimmy Nutt; daughter Jamie Nutt; son Jason Nutt and wife Jodie; son Jonathan Nutt; brother and sister-in-law Duane and Davis Nutt of Corsicana, Texas; sister Pat Riggs and husband Mike of Allen, Texas and sister Debra Weisner of Tyler, Texas. She is also survived by nine grandchildren – Johnny, Jalyn, Jenise, Joshua, Janaye, Josiah, Jaycee, Joyanna, and Josephine Nutt and great granddaughter Jade Poteet and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joyce graduated from Rusk High School and then attended Stephen F. Austin University earning a Master's of Education degree. She was selected as Stone Fort Beauty, nominated for Homecoming Queen, voted Cutest Couple and won the Miss Nacogdoches Pageant in 1957.
Joyce and Jimmy were married in June of 1958 and they moved to Pasadena, Texas. Joyce taught one year in Houston I.S.D. before coming back and teaching at Pasadena I.S.D. until her retirement. After many years in Pasadena, they moved to Huntsville in 1984. Joyce found a love for teaching again in church. She taught Adult Sunday School, Girl's Auxiliary, Vacation Bible School and was also a Den Mother for Cub Scouts. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 10am, with services beginning at 11am at Elkins Lake Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas. Burial will follow at Brooke Cemetery on FM 980. Memorial condolences to the family may be made at www.shmfh.com.
