Joyce M. Pevytoe

Joyce M. Pevytoe, age 92, of Rib Mountain, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Wellington Place Assisted Living in Rib Mountain.

She was born on November 7, 1931, in Unity, Wisconsin to Gordon and Eleva Forbish.

Joyce grew up on a farm near Colby Wisconsin along with her parents and three brothers. She graduated from Colby High School and moved to the Wausau area. In August of 1955 she married William H. Pevytoe. They bought a home in the Rib Mountain and started their life together raising their two sons. Being the only “girl” in the family was nothing new to Joyce so she always participated in family activities. Joyce was a devoted Sunday School Teacher at Grace United Church of Christ in Wausau for many years. She enjoyed teaching the youngest children about the church and religion. As her sons got older Joyce expanded the things she did to be involved with her family. When the boys were old enough to deer hunt, she joined them. Many a hunting day was spent with her sitting in a comfortable deer stand and enjoying the outdoors. Yet there were many times when she was the successful hunter with her patience and perseverance in the woods. As her sons became involved in other interests so did Joyce. She was involved in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and later Explorer Scouts. Joyce was one of the first adults to work with the Explorer Scouts in the area and was recognized by the Scouting leadership with several awards for her commitment to youth.

After many years of working appliance repair for a Wausau store William and Joyce decided to take the leap and start their own business doing the same. Together they established Appliance Service in Rib Mountain. Joyce quickly became the office manager for the Appliance Service. She maintained the records and would deal with the customers establishing service times and needs. William Pevytoe provided the service repairs and later was joined by the youngest son, Jeffery as he learned the repair trade. In March 1993 Willam passed away. Joyce and Jeffery continued to operate the business which still provides service today. Joyce did the office aspects of the business until she was in her late 80’s enjoying the contact with the customers and keeping busy.

As Joyce advanced in age and her health needs changed, she moved to Wellington Place Assisted Living. She established many friendships with the staff and residents at Wellington Place. The Family of Joyce Pevytoe wish to express their great appreciation for the loving care that she received from the staff at Wellington Place and in the final months from Aspirus Hospice care.

Joyce Pevytoe is survived by her sons, Rodney (Barbara) Pevytoe of Eagle River, Jeffery Pevytoe of Rib Mountain, two grandchildren, Laura (Will) Bradly, and William (Kaitlyn) Pevytoe and three great grandsons, Mason and Logan Pevytoe and Franklyn Bradly.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Pevytoe, her parents and three brothers, Eugene, Thomas, and Raymond (Forbish).

A memorial service will take place at a future date at the Helke Funeral home.
