Obituary published on Legacy.com by Merit Memorial Funeral & Cremation Care - Dallas on Oct. 1, 2025.
We remember and celebrate the life of Joyce Pitkin, who was born on May 20, 1954, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Lucille Lucherini and Leonard Rex Pitkin, the baby of their five children. She grew up in Salt Lake, graduating from South High School, before moving to Texas in 1979. She passed away peacefully at her home in
Dallas, Texas, on February 28, 2024, after a long illness. Joyce was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was known for her fun-loving nature, her unwavering loyalty, and her faithful courage. Joyce had an ever-present smile, excellent taste and style, and a captivating spirit that touched everyone she met; her absence will be felt deeply.
Joyces career was spent in commercial real estate, working as an administrative assistant, broker, office manager and accountant, showcasing her skills and dedication at Hank Dickerson & Company, Duvall-Giles, Lincoln Property Company, Centre Development and finally, Catlyn Capital Corp. In 2023, she retired, leaving behind a legacy of loyalty and hard work. Joyce served in various church callings, including chorister, pianist, and organist, for over 50 years. Joyce had an eye for beauty, enjoying fashion, jewelry, and home decor. She was a Jazzercise instructor, enjoyed USTA tennis, and was president of her HOA for many years. Later in life, she discovered a profound love for rescue dogs, providing a forever home for her two beloved pets, Peeper and Millie, and was a loving second momma to Lucy. Texas Longhorn football and the Dallas Cowboys could really get her heart pumping!
Joyce was an adventurous soul, always eager to explore new places. She loved to travel, often accompanied by her family or her close-knit circle of friends. She was a favorite aunt, great-aunt, great-great-aunt, and friend to many, always willing to lend a listening ear, a comforting word, or a helping hand. Her presence brought laughter and fun, and she was a source of joy and strength to her loved ones. Her memory will live on in our hearts.
Joyce is survived by her beloved sister, Linda (William) Hargis, brother-in-law James Long, sister-in-law Lynne Pitkin, nieces Kim (Wayne) Miller and Debbie Lands, nephews, Scott (Stacy) Pitkin, Todd Pitkin, Kevin (Robyn) Long, Jeffrey (Jackie) Long, Brandon Hargis (Amira Adzulovic), Jason Hargis (Valerie Hodge), 17 great-nieces and nephews, and six great-great nieces and nephews, numerous cousins and many, many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Gordon Pitkin and Clyde Pitkin, her sister, Carol Long, and her great-nephew, Karl Andrew Long.
The family is appreciative of Dr. Kristi McIntyre and the Texas Oncology staff, Open Arms TLC, and Faith Presbyterian Hospice (especially Cynthia and Monica), for the loving and compassionate care Joyce received. Joyces wish to remain in her home was made possible by the friends and family who supported Kim and Debbie in Joyces care.
It is a comfort to know she rests in the peace of her Savior.
We invite everyone whose lives were touched by Joyce to share their memories and upload photos to her memorial page. By doing so, we can continue to celebrate her life, remembering the love, laughter, and warmth she brought into our world.
