Joyce Sweet Porter, 85, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Washington, D.C., she was the beloved daughter of the late Jesse Sweet and Leroma Long, and sister to the late Jesse “Jay” Sweet Jr.
She was the former spouse of the late George Robert Porter, with whom she shared many years and family memories.
Joyce began her career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and later worked as a legal patent secretary, retiring after many years of dedicated service.
A proud resident of Mount Airy, Joyce lived life with warmth and enthusiasm. She loved duckpin bowling, cheering for the Baltimore Ravens, doting on her dogs, and spending countless hours chatting with family and friends on the phone. Her memorable laugh, quick wit, and caring spirit brought joy to everyone who knew her.
She was a devoted volunteer at Calvary Lutheran Church, where she shared her time and kindness in service to others.
Joyce is survived by her loving son, Michael Porter, and his wife, Andrea Porter; her cherished grandson, Brandon Porter, and his wife, Mackensie; as well as stepchildren, godsons, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation at Burrier Queen Funeral Home,1212 West Old Liberty Road Sykesville, Maryland, on Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
