Mrs. Joyce Bridges Powell, 91, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2025. She was born January 31, 1934, to the late Granville Morgan Bridges and Hazel Frost Bridges.
Joyce was a devoted mother and grandmother who found joy in creating a warm and loving home. She loved gardening, reading, needlework, sewing, cooking, and baking. In her earlier years, she enjoyed riding horses and oil painting. Her favorite color was purple.
She was of the Methodist faith and cherished reading her Bible.
Joyce is survived by her three sons, Mark Starkweather (Cherry), Gary Starkweather (Vandy), and Jon Cleighton Powell (Dawn); nine grandchildren, Rachel Starkweather, Jason Starkweather (Lorie), Deborah Lovern (Joshua), Stephanie Taylor (Christopher), Chris Starkweather, Sara Starkweather-Platt, Jessie Montgomery, Stephanie Powell and Joshua Powell (Kelsea); and seventeen great-grandchildren, Matilda Hayworth, Hazel Joyce Starkweather, Kayla Platt, Jakob Lovern, Kaylee Lovern, Stephan Taylor, Liam Taylor, Karra Phillips, Britney Montgomery, Logan Powell, Adalyn Powell, Luke Powell, Neyland Powell, Alexis Kincaid, Mariah Powell, Cheyenne Kear and Paul Wachter. She is also survived by a former daughter-in-law, Carolyn Starkweather.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Roy James Powell; her former husband, Harold Clyde Starkweather; and a daughter-in-law, Marie Powell.
A private family burial will take place in the Harless Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama.
