Obituary published on Legacy.com by Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center on Nov. 15, 2025.
Beloved sister and aunt, Joyce Ann Rhoden, 70, a longtime Martinsville resident, entered eternal rest with her brother by her side on Friday, November 14th, 2025, at 7:44 a.m. at Grand Valley Health and Rehabilitation in Martinsville. Joyce's life began on Tuesday, August 9, 1955, in South Bend, Indiana. She was one of five children and the only daughter born to the late Harold and Leona (Thatcher) Rhoden. Joyce was disabled most of her life, but that never kept her from finding joy each day. She lived with her parents throughout her life until her mother's passing in 2006. During her mother's later years, Joyce learned to help care for her, and after her mother's death, she discovered she was able to continue living in the family home with the love, support, and assistance of her family and Sycamore Services for the next 18 years. She loved watching television and was an avid fan of the Colts, the Hoosiers, and NASCAR. Her love for NASCAR began after learning of the death of Dale Earnhardt, whom she fondly-and always-referred to as "Dale Hardt." She also enjoyed watching cooking shows, learning new things, and remembering nearly anything she heard. Her sharp memory and keen awareness, especially regarding the things she loved-current events and every family member's birthday-were truly remarkable. Joyce leaves behind a host of loving family, including her brothers, Dan Rhoden (wife, Jenny) and Mel Rhoden (wife, Anita), all of Martinsville; nieces, Carrie Cross of Byron, Illinois, and Natalie Urban (husband, Daniel) of Martinsville; nephews, Johnnie Rhoden of Florida, Rick Rhoden and Rob Rhoden (wife, Heather), all of Martinsville, and Kyle Rhoden (wife, Leslie) of Plainfield, Indiana; and sisters-in-law, Donna Rhoden of Florida and Theresa Rhoden of Martinsville. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Marvin and Kenny Rhoden; and one niece, Jennifer Rhoden. Family and friends are invited to a graveside service celebrating Joyce's life on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at New South Park Cemetery in Martinsville. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Sycamore Services and Grand Valley Health and Rehabilitation for their tender, loving care and support. Neal & Summers Funeral & Cremation Center has been entrusted with the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Sycamore Services, Inc., 465 S. Main St. #108,
Martinsville, IN 46151. Online condolences may be shared with Joyce's family at www.nealandsummers.com.
