Joyce Cole Slaughter, 81, of Chester, VA went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 27, 2025. Born in Halifax County, VA on July 9, 1943, she was the daughter of the late John Holland Cole and Mattie Velma Lowery Cole. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Sherrell Cole; sister-in-law, Joyce Cole; brother-in-law, Dave Morgan; and niece, Kathy Cole.

Joyce dedicated over four decades of her life to a career she loved, serving as a Contracting Officer Supervisor for Defense General Supply Company in Richmond, VA, before retiring after 30 years. Her passion for her work led her back for another 13 years as Contracting Support with LTM supporting DGSC. A member of Ivey Memorial Methodist Church in Colonial Heights, Joyce was a woman of deep faith, always lifting her loved ones in prayer and putting her trust in the Lord. She cherished weekends at her home on the Chesapeake Bay, where she enjoyed fishing and spending time with her husband. Joyce also had a deep love for her family and took pride in the care that she gave to them. She also adored her beloved dogs, Hershey, Annie, Rocky, and Milo. Joyce also shared a passion for motorcycle rides with her husband and never missed a chance to cheer on the UVA basketball team.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Charles “Eddie” Slaughter; daughter, Jacqueline “Jackie” Slaughter; grandson, Sam Marvel; sister, Joan Morgan; brother, Marshall Cole; nephew, Kurt Morgan; and many other extended family members.

The family would like to give special thanks to James River Hospice and their care team who provided exceptional care and support towards Joyce and the family.

2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
