Joyce Stephens Obituary
Joyce A. Stephens, age 91, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025. Joyce was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Sutton, and Susie Mayberry; and her beloved husband, Joseph J. "Jack" Stephens, with whom she shared 64 wonderful years of marriage. Joyce leaves behind a legacy of love through her devoted children, John (Karen), Laura (Steve) Sherman, and Scott (Jodie). She was a proud grandmother to eleven grandchildren (Sara, Drew, Jim, Elizabeth, Joe, TJ, Sam, Clarine, Kyra, Jessica, and Matthew) and eagerly anticipated the future arrival of her first great-grandson. In addition to her children and grandchildren, Joyce is survived by her brother-in-law, Larry Stephens and sister-in-law, Carol Hardman.
A proud alumna of the University of Illinois, Joyce earned her degree in Occupational Therapy. She was an accomplished Occupational Therapist who made significant contributions to the field at Americana Nursing Home in Arlington Heights, she established the OT departments at both Lake Forest and Condell hospitals, and then worked for years in home healthcare. Her dedication and expertise left a lasting impact on her colleagues and the countless patients she helped throughout her career.
A pillar of strength for both her immediate and extended family, Joyce's warmth and kindness touched the lives of many. She found joy in reading, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren and numerous friends in the Chicago area and Bella Vista, Arkansas. Joyce's legacy of love and compassion will be cherished by all who knew her.
Joyce's life will be celebrated in the hearts of those she touched. Her story is one of love, dedication, and the joy of living fully. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her
