Saint Albans – Joyce Mary Stutler, a lifelong resident of the area, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the St. Albans Health & Rehab Center with her family by her side. She was 88 years old.
Born in St. Albans on June 11, 1936, Joyce was the daughter of the late Fred Goodwin, Mother Doris (Poland) Goodwin, Stepfather Ronald Coons. She was a graduate of Bellows Free Academy in 1952. Working at M. H. Fishman Co. Inc. and JC Penney Company in St. Albans until she moved to Macedonia, Ohio and went on to earn her Associate Degrees at Cuyahoga Community College of Macedonia, Ohio. Joyce earned her Bachelor's Degrees at Johnson State College through the external degree program in the 90s and her Master's Degree in Business Management and Accounting from Saint Michael's College in early the 2000s. Joyce began her accounting career in Bedford, Ohio at various car dealerships. Upon returning to Vermont, she continued her career as a teacher for Community College of Vermont in St. Albans as the cost accounting and accounting principles teacher and the primary accountant for Moore Lincoln Mercury Dealership, where she worked for 32 years before retiring. During that time, she worked in the electronics department at Ames Department Store in 1988 and at JC Penney in the lingerie department from 1989 to 2012 while continuing her higher education.
A devoted Catholic, Joyce was a lifelong and active communicant of Holy Angels Parish. She served as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Coordinator of Religious Education from 1980 to 1988, and was a lifetime member and past President of the Ladies of St. Anne.
Joyce found joy in simple pleasures. She especially enjoyed anything to do with her granddaughters and her trips to McDonald's for hot coffee, chicken nuggets, hot fudge sundaes, while studying her books.
Survivors
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Cynthia M. Stutler, and her grandchildren, Shannon Elaine Sloan and Hailee Alexandria Sloan; her sister, Susan Baker, and husband, Malcolm; her brother, Kenneth Coons; and her step-sister, Sally Osman. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, including Keith Baker, and wife, Amber; Sandra (Baker) Foisy, and husband, Marc; Cathy (Coons) Potvin, and husband, Bob; Donald Decker, and wife, Laura; Kenneth P. Coons; Steven Coons, and wife, Arnida; Ronald Coons, Richard Osman, and wife, Kimberly; Bruce Osman, and wife, Rainee; Melissa J Rhodes Arcand, and partner John Kipp; Maggie Johnson and Ileah Arcand as well as many great-nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her Father Fred Goodwin; Mother Doris (Poland) (Goodwin) Coons; Stepfather Ronald W. Coons; her ex-husband James A. Stutler; brother, Larry Coons; brother-in-law Richard Osman; and her nephew, Drew Osman.
Prayers of committal and interment will take place on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Calvary Street, St. Albans.
