John Hunter Walker

John Hunter Walker passed peacefully on the evening of August 10, 2025, just one day after spending Saturday with friends at the Waterbury Car Show-a fitting final chapter for a man whose heart belonged to classic automobiles.

Born on March 22, 1938 in Lancaster, NH, John lived throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont during his 87 years. He dedicated over 40 years of his career to McCullough's Crushing in Middlesex, VT, while also working as a mechanic-a profession that perfectly complemented his true calling. John's greatest passion was breathing new life into old Chevrolets. Whether he was fabricating custom metal pieces or meticulously restoring a classic car to its former glory, he found pure joy in every project. His love for vintage Chevys wasn't just a hobby-it was his art form. He was a proud member of both the Central Vermont Kustom Klassics and the National Street Rod Association, and he attended car shows whenever possible, always eager to share stories and admire fellow enthusiasts' work. True to his character, John always chose the scenic route when traveling, savoring every mile of the journey just as he savored every moment spent with his beloved automobiles. His final Saturday at the Waterbury Car Show, surrounded by friends and the cars he loved, was exactly where he would have wanted to be.

John was predeceased by his parents, William Albert Walker and Anna Mae Hunter, younger brother Bruce Albert Walker, brother-in-law Charley Mack Gotcher, grandson Andrew Gagne, and his cousin, Jim Ellis. He is survived by his sister Judith Gotcher, daughter Peggy Walker, daughter and son-in-law Judy & Gary Choiniere, his son John Walker, granddaughters Brooke Gagne, Sara Choiniere, Ashley Eberly, Amanda Choiniere and her husband Tom Gleason; grandsons Austin Veach, Brandon Walker, Chad Walker, and Eric Choiniere and his wife Talisha Choiniere; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at 9:00 AM on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at the Calais Town Hall at 1662 Kent Hill Road, East Calais, VT 05650.
